The Casino was an enormously popular complex of restaurants, lounges, shops, swimming pool, cabanas and lifeguard towers on Sarasota, Florida’s pristine Lido Beach. It was designed by architect, Ralph Twitchell and built as a WPA project. It formally opened in 1940. Sadly, it was demolished a mere 29 years later in 1969. The swimming pool is all that remains.
One architectural detail of the building was the eight foot concrete sea horse that adorned the facade and appeared as sentinels casting an eye out to sea.
